Baby it’s cold outside! Although we are focused on staying warm this time of year, your hair needs special attention to look its best too. We are all aware of the term “bad hair day” that usually relates to hot humid weather and the resulting flat hair look. You may not realize that cold air and its moisture robbing characteristics can be more detrimental to the health of your hair. Dehydrated hair and scalp due to cold air can create dull appearance, static, dandruff, split ends, breakage and even excessive hair loss. There are some simple things we can all do to prevent hair damage and treat cold weather hair challenges:
· Use a quality moisturizing or hydrating shampoo, conditioner and treatments. We found Olaplex to be an amazing product line dedicated to the dynamic unique health of your hair. In fact, they have a hair assessment on their website we encourage you to take to best equip yourself to care for your hair. The assessment can be found here. We also love products from Moroccan Oil, Kevin Murphy and Usmooth.
· Schedule regular appointments with your hair stylist to trim your hair and avoid split ends. To look your best we recommend every 6 weeks or less.
· Avoid super long hot water showers that contribute to moisture loss.
· Avoid exposing wet hair to the winter cold when it is most vulnerable to damage.
